Halloween on the Farm This year with Donkeys, Dogs, Decorations and Drama
Since adopting Mickey and Mona, I have discovered that decorating outdoors for any holiday is an adventure in futility. Mickey and Mona have added to my household in so many wonderful ways. They are especially good with our three legged Scooter who rules the roost.
However, they delight in committing major crimes against skeletons, scarecrows and pumpkins. I enjoy Halloween. However, I really don’t like skeletal remains of decorations. Then there is the mayhem of holiday package deliveries. Last year they ate a Christmas cookie delivery, most of which were chocolate. They did leave me the metal box.
Since chocolate is dangerous for dogs, the vet and I spent time on the phone calculating their weight against how much chocolate they had actually consumed. Fortunately, they hadn’t eaten enough of My cookies! All my friends and family got emails. No Chocolate Anything can be mailed to the Farm. WE are not taking any chances like that again.
Halloween Decorations with Animal Safety in Mind
I love decorating for the holidays, inside and out. So the house is feeling the season with this arrangement that greets guests at the front door. Our indoor dog,
Scooter even got into the festive spirit by allowing us to slip him into his bumblebee costume. By the way, Scooter is the real life counterpart for BeBe in Catch the Fire, Book 4 of the Live Oak Series.
The outside decorations were more of problem. As much as I would like to do front yard displays, that is so not going to happen. Not after last year’s demonstration of canine destructon. A trip to our local craft store provided me with the supplies I needed for the new, Mona/Mickey proof decorations that would greet our holiday guests. I would have taken a video of Mona and Mckey with their faces framed in the screen door watching the proceedings but every time I lifted the camera they ducked into the hedges. I told you they were sneaky.
Anyway, here is a video of the finished project. Hopefully, M & M won’t figure out how to open the screen door. Happy Halloween Everyone!!

Great commentary and love the video. Farm life sounds busy, adventurous and lots of fun and excitement. Keep on enjoying and dealing with the two ‘demolition doggies.’
It is fun and always very peaceful. Every morning is like waking up to a world filled with possibilities. Which one will I choose today is one of my first thoughts.
