An Invitation from North Florida Writers Tour
I was delighted to receive an unexpected invitation from the North Florida Writers Tour to answer a few questions and to do a small video for their site. As with most things on the Farm there was a small twist. I was in the beginning stages of a head cold. My skills with my camera and making videos is very new. Having the added complication of a cold rough voice meant multiple attempts before one made the cut.
Then there was a question to choose from a lengthy list
I just had to pick Point of View as I had just completed an event where a young writer was struggling with the concept. Thankfully, I had great mentors when I first started.
Drawing on that knowledge, I was able to share one tip that has worked so successfully for me. It is brief, easy to remember and, most importantly, easy to understand. As much as I like multiple view points in a story, I am very careful with how and where they occur. A favorite of mine, when I am working with a mystery element, is a short chapter in the bad guy/gal’s POV.
With the chapter method the formula still applies. The bad guy/gal is the main POV. I used that device in a recent release, Truth Wins Book 3 of the Truth Series. I have found that the placement of the smaller chapters can help the plot but misplacement can also create problems. Remember the flow of the overall story.
