Today we celebrate reading. I heard on the news this morning that only one in three children, fourth grade, are reading at grade level. If a child can’t read at grade level, no matter how intelligent, that child will have difficulty in learning. That means lower grades. Drop out rates increase and, if the child does tough it out to graduate, it is often harder to get into a college or university. Ready skills matter.
