As A Reader I Believe In Doing Book Reviews for so many reasons. First, long before I became a writer, I loved reading and talking about books, the ones I loved most of all.
Because reading is subjective, I have a policy against doing a negative review on any book. One, because I don’t finish what I don’t like and two, reading is subjective. What one person may like, another may hate. I never want to be a part of bringing any book down. Books have been and are still being banned or rejected because of one person’s opinion. I never want to be that person so no negative for me.
This year has proven to be busier than usual on the farm with writing my own books and some renovations that have taken longer than expected. So, finally, I have had time to actually sit down and dive into a book. The first this year was a real first for me.
A novella. Ordinarily I prefer longer formats but this one is part of an anthology, First Coast Romance Writers – Romancing the Tropics Anthology and a friend asked me to read an advance copy of her contribution.
What a treat A Widow’s Dilemma in Cuba by L. J. Green turned out to be. Set in the 1904, the story had my interest from the first few pages. Two women, Diane and Janie are widows. Being modern women with agile minds and a thirst for adventure, Janie and her Aunt Diane embark on a journey that takes them into Diane’s past, a yesteryear that is filled with unanswered questions, danger and intrigue.
How did her husband die and why?
A friend, a man with answers and very important questions.
The novella teases on one hand and incites on the other. I loved the attention to historic detail, right down to the rhythm of a more formal way of life. The language, the feel of the story combined to create a lovely walk through a bygone era. While the story is beautifully complete as written, I wanted more…more…more
Five Stars⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for A Widow’s Dilemma in Cuba by L. Greene
