I am delighted to be joining the Friends of the Library on Monday, February 26, 2024 in Perry, Florida to discuss Caregiving.
I have had the pleasure in the past of visiting with this great group of readers so I am looking forward to the evening. Caregiving has many faces, along with unexpected joys and tears. There are always great questions as we share experiences and tips.

This part of Florida has been hit hard by Hurricane Idalia so I hope to add some tips on how to handle weather events when you have someone for whom you are caring.
One of the first things a caregiver should check are medications to be certain there is enough on hand for at least a week past the impact. Roads can become impassable for a while even for emergency vehicles is a prime example. Also, food and water are a must as power outages are almost always lengthy no matter how hard the power companies work to get everyone back online. These are just a few of the topics we will be covering for possible emergency situations.
I also have a few new tips that not only save time but minimize fall risks. One of my favorites is the use of a cart to get shopping and grocery items from car to house. I have number of friends who have fallen because of carrying various items that hindered sight lines or made grabbing a rail to stop a fall nearly impossible. When someone’s hands are full, it is difficult to grab or brace when the footing becomes uncertain. Broken bones don’t mend overnight.
Then there is this inexpensive kitchen gadget that can open jars or bottles with ease. I am taking mine along for a real demonstration. I always have bottled water along and that cap is often very stubborn.
Hope to see you there. Remember 5:30 to 6:30 pm Monday. Sharing makes Caregiving just a little easier.
